Attractive furnished room in family home in wonderful neighborhood,

A most pleasant room in our North Berkeley home for your graduate studies, sabbatical, or research project. Your small private bedroom is super-clean with attractive wood furniture furniture, including a comfortable queen-sized bed, desk & chair,... wardrobe and end table, and a good size closet with many shelves. The window lets in the morning sun and looks out on a side path. Ideal for a shorter few month stay to avoid the higher Airbnb rates.

You would have access to a shared fully equipped, eat-in kitchen with all new GE stainless steel appliances: a gas stove & oven, French style refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave, with a washer and dryer and tablle in the kitchen area and a shared bathroom. Included in rent are all utilities, Wi-Fi, basic kitchen and household supplies, linens and towels, and a weekly professional house cleaning. You would be responsible for your own groceries, toiletries, laundry and laundry supplies. There is a bicycle for use.

There is the equivalent of a health club right across the street with the public King Park, year-round heated swimming pool, tennis courts and jogging track. The back opens to a small serene yard, which a renter called his "own little Walden." with the fresh flowing Codornices Creek and a towering redwood There are two separate in-law apartments off the back with long term, professional tenants.

With a short stroll down the street, you will meet neighbors with a slice of Gioia pizza, croissant or coffee in hand or coming up from other specialty stores and the fabulous Monterrey Market, with a bulging bag of the freshest produce in the Bay Area. Or sit in the sun and chat at the popular Espresso Roma.

There is a friendly, relaxed Berkeley vibe to this desirable, safe, long-established neighborhood with lots of professionals and young families. An easy walk to Solano Avenue or the Gourmet Ghetto on upper Shattuck takes you to grocery stores, bookstores, boutiques, and many Zagat rated restaurants.

AC transit buses regularly run past the house or at the top of the street and quickly get you Downtown Berkeley or North Berkeley Bart, or bike to the UC campus in 15 minutes. An express bus at the corner gets you quickly to San Francisco. Berkeley Walk Score is rated 85 out of 100: "The third most walk-able neighborhood in all of Berkeley." Called "Bikers Paradise" with flat lands and good bike lines, we rate 91 on the biking score. There is ample free street parking and space in the back yard to park your bike.

You would be sharing the three-bedroom house with my husband Bev and me and our sweet young dog Emmylou, who is often in the fenced backyard and inside at night. There may be another lenant in the larger bedroom. Bev is a long time human rights activist and a wonderful host. He will probably ask you to join him watching sports or maybe a hike or trip to the ocean. I am a social justice theatre director engaged in writing and performance projects. The renter in the other room is a French woman running a café on the UC campus.

We are looking for a thoughtful, independent, but friendly renter, often out of the house as we work at home, and busy with his/her own schedule. A fully refundable security deposit of $1,250 will hold the room for your move-in . Absolutely no sublets, Airbnb, smoking, hard drugs or pets allowed and no overnight guests please, unless pre-arranged for out-of-town guests.

Please email to tell us something about yourself, your schedule and interests, and to schedule a Zoom call if all sounds mutually agreeable. You will need a recent academic department, work or landlord reference. Besides the USA, we have welcomed renters from China, France, Iran, Poland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nepal, South Africa, Spain, and Serbia and internationals are particularly welcome. Cheers, Deborah
