Classic Berkeley house on Rose Walk, walk to campus
Our beautiful home is a 1931 stucco cottage with red-tile roof, exposed beams, and wood windows. Its front door opens onto Rose Walk, a pedestrian walkway designed by Bernard Maybeck (and a Berkeley landmark). Downstairs there is a large living room... with a grand piano, fireplace and vaulted ceiling, a dining room that opens onto a terrace, a well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast nook, a half bathroom, and a family room or office space that opens up onto a large back patio.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, one of which is a classic Berkeley "sleeping porch" with windows all around, and two bathrooms. The master bedroom contains a queen-sized bed. The second bedroom contains a very sturdy loft bed (twin size) with a study space underneath. The sleeping porch is currently used as an office but could be used as a bedroom.
The washer and dryer are in the basement (note that it must be accessed from the outside). The basement also contains a small work space and some storage.
The garden is beautiful, with lemons, rosemary, and flowers in bloom at almost any time of year. It's a 15 minute walk (or 5 minute bus ride) to the UC Berkeley campus or the North Berkeley "gourmet ghetto," and just a little farther to the Berkeley BART station (with convenient access to San Francisco). Codornices Park and the Berkeley Rose Garden are just two blocks away in this wonderful neighborhood.
We would like to rent for approximately the same period we will be away on sabbatical, August 2025-July 2026.
