- Description: This charming little house is located in the backyard of a wonderful house, and was fully remodeled in March 2022, outfitted with a brand new kitchen (induction stovetop, refrigerator, sink, skylights) and bathroom + shower with their own skylight. It has its own private entrance, and street parking, giving you plenty of privacy. There is a nice washer and dryer shared between the main house and the mini-house in a storage shed attached to the main house.

Unique to this listing, along with having this as your private space, you also get access to the shared spaces in the house itself - a large living room, dining room, and larger kitchen! The main house comes fully furnished.

The main house has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an office. Eli and Alex are in the two bedrooms, but we’re also looking for someone to sublet Eli’s bedroom August through December (reach out if interested). My favorite part of the house is the backyard, which is full of different plants, flowers, birds, and has a deck and grill. Wonderful for hosting events.

Very safe neighborhood, extremely close (~3 min) to multiple public transportation options (BART, Buses, Bikelines, BearTransit), grocery stores (e.g., Trader Joe’s, Monterey Market) within walking distance. 8 minute bike-ride to campus

Wonderful greenspace around:
1 block from Ohlone Park (with basketball courts, squash courts, baseball field, little soccer field, and dog park
2 blocks from the Ohlone Running Trail (4.5 miles long, starts right near the house)
12 minute bikeride to the Marina, which has Cesar Chavez Park, the Cal Sailing Club, and more

Transit Options:
10 minute bike ride to campus, located on a street with a bike lane (Hearst)
Located 1 block from North Berkeley BART (makes it super easy to get to SF, Oakland Airport, SF airport, etc)
Located 1 block from the 52 bus stop (that goes to campus southside)
Located 2 blocks from 51B, 88, and J busses

Groceries:
4 blocks from Trader Joes
16 minute walk from Monterey Market (some of the best produce/fruits in Berkeley), Monterey Fish Market (fresh organic fish), and Magnani Poultry (local meat shop)

Parking:
Plenty of street parking available, requires obtaining a city parking permit.

About Eli:

I’m a 3rd-year EECS PhD student at UC Berkeley. I did my undergrad at Berkeley 2015-2019 (Go Bears! 🐻), lived in Berkeley and SF for the next four years, working most of the time at Waymo Research on self-driving cars. I moved back to Berkeley in 2023 to start my PhD with a focus on human-AI interaction, and it’s great to be back. I enjoy hiking, biking, playing pickleball, and cooking with friends. As a housemate, I’m neat and respectful, and I also enjoy chatting and hosting dinner/cooking parties that I hope you’ll also enjoy.

About Alex:

I am a 4th-year EECS PhD student at UC Berkeley. I also did my undergrad at Berkeley 2015-2019, graduating with an EECS degree and a Music degree (focused on violin performance). I like classical music, reading, hiking, and travel. I play soccer, tennis, and ski, and have been recently picking up sailing at the Berkeley Marina. I know the area quite well from my undergrad years, and picked this home as a rare sweetspot of space, ease of commute to campus by bike/scooter, and proximity to public transit (as I often go to San Francisco).

Since graduating, I’ve been working at Google, first as an engineer at YouTube, now as a Systems Researcher working on designing routing protocols for the internet (how your data knows how to get from you to a Google datacenter).
