South Berkeley Yellowhouse Community
The Yellowhouse is seeking a new housemate for our 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in South Berkeley.
There is a large and winding yard with a redwood, a big lemon tree, patio furniture, clothesline, and gardening space. The house has laundry washer and... dryer, a dishwasher, heat in each room, high ceilings, a large kitchen, and charming leftist inhabitants with passion for chaotic food experiments in very pretty pottery, Jeff Cheung drawings, and talking about our lives.
The house comes with a part-time furry friend, Cookie, a dog that looks and acts more like a coyote but with eyeliner. The house is on a large shared plot of land with The Purple House, where live an herbalist, a singer, and two large and loud cats that are not allowed in the Yellowhouse because of allergies.
The Room: The available room is $1,100 and 164 square feet. It is up a flight of stairs and has 1 southeast facing wall of windows that look out into the neighborhood and the Oakland hills, and 2 closets. There is a full shared bathroom , and an anteroom for the bathroom with a sink. There is also a large landing that has been used as a mini living room.
There’s a shared kitchen, dining room & living room on the first floor. We buy groceries together but have our own shelves for any secret or shameful treats. We cook together once a week and end up with a formal meeting every 2-3 weeks.
The housemates include one POC and two white people. Queer vibes. No terfs and we want a free Palestine.

D, 44: Bay Area native; working, running, climbing, cooking, activisting, (specifically trying to solve industrialized agriculture problems)
E, 31: gremlin who eats every 2 hours, co-parents Cookie, writes silly stories, and works in publishing and art so people think she’s cool
If you want to live with us, we like folks who are over 30, have well practiced communication skills, transformative justice angles on accountability and growth, and are little freaks.
Location South Berkeley, right at the Oakland border. 12 minute walk to Ashby BART and 5 min drive/short bike ride to (either) Berkeley Bowl. 2 blocks to the Tuesday South Berkeley Farmers’ Market. The neighborhood is friendly with many long-time residents.
